Transferring an Indian LEI to Trusted LEI

Many Indian entities got their first LEI from LEIL in a hurry, because a bank deadline was close. You can move that LEI to us at any time. Transfers are part of the GLEIF framework: the code, and every record your bank or depository holds against it, stays exactly the same. Only the issuer that manages renewals changes.

We take care of the request to your current issuer, verify the record against MCA21 as part of the move, and renew it at the same time if it is due or has lapsed. Corporate groups often use a transfer to bring the LEIs of several group companies under one renewal calendar.

What we need for the transfer

  • The LEI to be transferred
  • CIN or LLPIN, so we can check the record against MCA21
  • Consent from an authorised signatory of the entity

LEI transfer questions in India

Do we need to inform our bank after a transfer?

No. The bank holds your LEI code, and that code does not change. Only the managing issuer shown in the public record is different.

Can our current issuer block the transfer?

GLEIF rules require issuers to release LEIs on request. A transfer can only be paused while a data challenge on the record is open.

How long does it take?

It usually completes within a few working days, depending on how quickly the current issuer responds.
